MoMoPDX First Event Details

In January we kicked off our first MoMoPDX event at BackSpace in Portland. There was a crowd of folks from all walks of the mobile industry: mobile payments, WiFi, infrastructure, mobile video, and cell phones. We caught the first event on video and we wanted to share it with you. Be sure to check out our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/MoMoPDXOrg for more footage from upcoming events.

Haiti Relief – How You Can Help

We’ve all been moved by the news, stories and images coming from quake ravaged Haiti. MoMoPDX is banding together with other chapters of Mobile Monday to direct local members of the mobile community to worthy organizations seeking money to help rescue and rebuild Haiti. The board of Mobile Monday Portland has selected two organizations that have either a local or mobile industry element, and who are known to be trusted and important organizations in disaster recover and reconstruction. If you haven’t yet donated to a relief organization, or if you can still give more, MoMoPDX urges you to consider donating to:

Save the date – MoMoPDX kicks off monthly meetings on January 11

After several months of administrative work, blogging, tweeting and planning, Mobile Monday Portland is about to formally launch! So put a note in your calendars to come to our inaugural event!

WHAT: MoMoPDX Meeting #1
WHERE: Backspace – 115 NW 5th in Portland [map]
WHEN: January 11, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm

Details will follow, so keep your eyes on this blog. However our first meeting is intended to be a fun meet and greet where you can mix and mingle with people working in Portland’s diverse and growing mobile industry. Future events will have a more structured program with panel discussions and presentations.

As the board prepared to launch MoMoPDX, we were struck by how many people from within the local mobile industry were unaware of how large this community is. All of us certainly know that the perception of our local industry outside of Portland is that it is small. We think you’ll be surprised by how big the Portland mobile industry really is. So far the MoMoPDX board has identified more than 40 companies in the mobile and wireless industries located in the Porltand/Vancouver metro area.

The local mobile ecosystem includes hardware manufacturers, chip makers, software companies, service providers in addition to independent developers, mobility-focused marketing companies, reporters, bloggers and industry analysts. Come meet your peers as the world’s largest mobile organization launches in Portland!

Portland’s Mobile Technology Community

Many people in the local mobile industry have expressed to us that they felt like “a fish out of water” believing their mobile company was one of maybe a handful of mobile companies in the Portland metro area. But as MoMoPDX is showing, there is a rather extensive mobile community right here in the Portland / Vancouver metro area.

Thanks to one such company, MapWith.Us of Vancouver, Washington, we are able to show you just how many companies there are. At the time of this post, we’ve listed only 14 of the companies about which we know, but keep checking back as we’ll be adding more.

If you don’t see your company listed, send us an email to info@momopdx.org along with your website, contact address and brief description and we’ll literally put you on the map.

Network with members of Portland’s vibrant and growing mobile community through Mobile Monday Portland (MoMoPDX), the newest chapter of the global Mobile Monday movement. Mobile Mondays are coming to Portland, Oregon!

When people think about where the mobile and wireless industry thrives, a number of regions spring to mind: Scandinavia has been a leader in wireless technology development; the Seattle area has its share of wireless companies as does New Jersey; of course there’s the Silicon Valley. Often lost in the mix is Portland, Oregon. But Portland has a thriving mobile industry with a number of important players and is also where a growing number of important trade editors and reporters call home.

To help promote the local mobile industry and enhance the business environment to keep it thriving, a group of Portland-based industry people met at CTIA and committed to start a local chapter of Mobile Monday.

Mobile Monday Portland — or MoMoPDX — is intended to network together local individuals and companies within the local mobile space.  MoMoPDX is about sharing ideas, networking, education, business development and social interaction.  One Monday every month there will be a MoMoPDX event.  The events will include presentations and panel discussions from those people in our industry with unique mobile expertise and experience.  Each event will also provide attendees ample time to network and socialize.

MoMoPDX is now seeking members, sponsor organizations, media partners and researching venues with an aim to begin holding events this summer.  Anyone interested in MoMoPDX is encouraged to sign up at our Yahoo! Groups page and follow us on Twitter:
